Marlene M. Shiner works in the area of divorce with emphasis on computer-assisted analysis of complex financial assets and on child custody arrangements. She holds a J.S.D. from Cornell University Law School; she is also a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School (J.D.), and the University of Toronto (B.A.).

She is a frequent lecturer and prolific writer regarding child support issues and the rights of children in divorce.  Representative cases include the determination of children's rights to private school education under domestic agreements; children's rights to support for extraordinary expenses related to their pre-divorce participation in extracurricular activities; and the determination of children's habitual residence under The Hague Convention on the Civil Aspect of international Child Abduction.

Marlene is also a certified mediator and negotiator. She has completed the Harvard Law School Program of Instruction for Lawyers, an intensive program that develops lawyers' understanding of the psychological, intellectual and emotional dynamics at play in a dispute; that teaches lawyers to hear, understand and assimilate the disparate viewpoints of the parties; and that equips lawyers to facilitate negotiation and agreement between adversaries by focusing on their interests rather than their positions.  Marlene was granted a National Interest Waiver and thereby U.S. citizenship because her legal work on behalf of children of divorce was deemed to be in the U.S. National Interest.
